The Creed

The Creed or “Apostles Creed”‘s intention was to sum up the most important facts of our faith in 12 key points.

Point 1: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth.

John one 4:8 God is everywhere, above and below, today and tomorrow, without beginning or end. God was here when not even a grain of dust existed and He will be still be here when the world no longer exists.

Psalms 90:2 Before the mountains were born or the Earth of the world brought forth, you are God, without beginning or end.

All creation exists because God wanted it and he sustains all things: time and space, heaven and Earth, the universe and stars, angels, man and animals. God has wonderfully ordered everything so that man can live on Earth.

From a text by Pope Benedict XVI.

We would prefer an “almighty” God who solves our problems, who intervenes to save us from every difficulty and removes all pain. First of all, it is important to know that God created us as free creatures and, in respecting our freedom, he permits us to even do things that cause suffering. One might think, isn’t it a weak God who lets himself be nailed to the cross by man? God’s [power]…however, is not expressed in destruction…but in love, mercy, forgiveness, in accepting our freedom… The cross, however, is not a sign of God’s powerlessness but of his …[great power]. He can do everything, everything love permits, even die and suffer out of love. This is the power of God.
